Bring your nautical lifestyle indoors with woodwork by South Shore Millwork. Our recent products featured in Boat US Magazine capture the essence of nautical design, merging your favorite seasonal activity with your interior decor.
Fine millwork is a staple on yachts and luxury boats. Countertops, vaulted beadboard ceilings and sturdy bunks all radiate the richness of maple, mahogany and other durable species. All of these motifs can be recreated by South Shore Millwork craftsmen, notwithstanding the smallest details. Customize your space with tiered porthole windows by South Shore for a complete nautical look.
In the article “Ship to Shore,” Boat US Magazine showcased custom cabinets by South Shore Millwork. The curvature of the cabinets is a nod to the organic form of ocean waves. The unit is constructed of solid maple with matching veneers. It contains over a dozen drawers for storage with style.
There will be hundreds of innovative residential products on display by the northeast’s top design and build companies. There are also a variety of workshops, including Thursday’s session on repairing and restoring windows on historic buildings. There’s no doubt that sometimes, form must follow function. However, with South Shore Millwork’s fire rated wood doors, you can have style and safety all at once.
We have hundreds of styles of fire-rated doors, as well as unlimited custom capabilities, ensuring that you can find the 20 to 90-minute fire doors that fulfill the safety needs of your project without sacrificing your vision. There is no need to resort to flush doors with plant-on mouldings when South Shore Millwork can provide full panel relief, engineered to match our non-rated doors.
Besides allowing you to keep a consistent style amongst all of the doors, our products also allow you to keep the same thickness up to a 90-minute fire rating. While some fire-rated door manufacturers make you jump up to 2 1/4″ thickness for a higher fire rating, our products have been specially engineered and tested to allow for a 1 3/4″ thickness up to a 90-minute rating.
We know that the architects, contractors, and designers we work with care about attention to detail, and we take that responsibility seriously at South Shore Millwork. Our Boston area shop embodies that ideal through meeting tight schedules, fulfilling unique needs, and making sure that our clients receive the product they are expecting. We are a fully custom shop, and only carry raw stock.
From elegant offices to cool contemporary restaurants, we do it all. Take a look at these examples of our work, and visit our Commercial gallery to see how our high-quality woodwork can transform a space, add elegance, and create the perfect corporate environment for any business.

We ran across some interesting news on the Architectural Woodwork Institute site recently- international paint and coatings company Valspar has released a report on upcoming style trends.
According to the report, rich, dark finishes are still highly popular, but there is also a trend towards mixing finishes, like neutral wood with a vivid accent piece, or juxtaposing salvaged wood with higher-tech finishes for an eclectic look. Director of Global Wood Business Development at Valspar, Edwin Messer was quoted, saying
“In wood, finish is the distinguishing touch that makes the style statement on the best furniture, cabinetry and woodcraft pieces…It is finish that creates the apirational element to a finished wooded piece. Whether it’s furniture, kitchen cabinets, windows, doors or moldings, the coatings that are used and how they are innovatively applied with a master craftsman’s touch can increase the perceived value of a piece and differentiate upper-end products from lower-end options.”
